The 2010 Circuit 4, Mock Trial Competition was held February 26th in Nassau County, with Duval and Clay County challenging Nassau County for the victories in numerous categories.

This year Duval County swept the day long event with Nassau’s young team receiving one award for Best Prosecution Witness by Ms. Emma Priest, a 13 yr old home School student .

We hosted 70 students and approximately 130 guests throughout the day, We were glad to welcome Judge Tim Collins of Clay County and Judge’s Robert Foster, Granville Burgess and Robert Williams of Nassau County’s Court along with several distinguished Attorney’s from all three Counties that acted as scoring panelist for the event.

The day was a tremendous success, full of fun and serious challenges for every student involved

What Is Teen Court?

Teen Court is a program run by teens for teens. Teenage offenders between the ages of 11 and 18, who have committed a misdemeanor crime have their cases heard by a jury of their peers. The volunteer teens perform the roles of prosecuting and defense attorneys, bailiff, clerk and jury. A local volunteer attorney presides as Judge and is the only adult directly involved in the Court proceedings.

Dates are tentatively scheduled, location and Judge’s jury dates may alter as we progress. We can not set locations between School and Court with more than 2-3 weeks notice, these arrangements will alter, some dates or locations which will be announced in the newspaper or in person, prior to events.
Locations for Teen Court are Nassau County Judicial Annex located at 76347 Veterans Way, Yulee, the Fernandina Historic Courthouse on Centre St., Callahan Middle School Library and the Hilliard Middle Senior High School, when announced on special occasions.

Tentative Dates / May be changed by scheduling conflicts

In order to participate as a Teen Court Volunteer, you must meet the following criteria.

You must be between the ages of 11 and 18.
You must abide by the rules of the program.
You must sign, respect and abide by the "Oath of Confidentiality"
You must demonstrate maturity and sensitivity.

Student volunteers meeting the above criteria and interested in serving as jurors, prosecutors, defense attorneys, bailiffs and clerks are always needed. Training sessions for your role in Teen Court are scheduled periodically throughout the year.
